What is a dry system and what is a wet system? A dry system is one where rainwater drains through downpipes into a rainwater tank and after it has finished raining, all rainwater leaves the pipework. There is thus no stagnant rainwater sitting in the pipes. A wet system is where the rainwater downpipes leading to the tank always have water in them. This type of system is normally used where rainwater is captured from more than one downpipe and the rainwater tanks are kept away from the building. Water goes down the downpipes, piped underground to the tank and then rises into the top of the tank. As long as the gutters are higher than the top of the tank, the rainwater will always go in
